Just received an email with this text:

"Hope you enjoy your lunch on Applebee's!

My name is Bill Palmer, founder of Applebee's. In an attempt to get our
name out to more people in the rural communities where we are not
currently located, we are offering a! $50 gift certificate to anyone who
forwards this email to 9 of their friends. Just send this email to them
and you will receive an email back with a confirmation number to claim
your gift certi ficate."

I don't think I've seen one of those forward conditional emails since college. Does anyone have an idea if it is even technologically feasible for a company/organisation to know if the email has been sent?

Kindle 2 is here! well - it's in America...

In case anyone missed the press conference yesterday, the Kindle 2 has finally been unveiled and will be ready for order in 2 weeks.

It looks like it's still only available in the U.S., but hopefully Amazon will understand that people also like reading on this side of the pond and introduce it for sale in Europe soon.

Here are the improvements made:

Thinner: 0.36 inches thick, 25% thinner than an iPhone
Quicker: Turns pages 20% faster
Longer lasting: 25% increase in battery life
Better display: 16 shades of gray (was 4)
Bigger memory: Stores up to 1,500 books
Bigger vocabulary: Built-in 250,000 dictionary
Better navigation: With a 5-way joystick
More vocal: Able to read text aloud in a semi-robotic voice
Less accident prone: The page-turn buttons are smaller and harder to hit by mistake
More wired: New Whispersync technology

I would expect something like this more from a FMCG company than one with an actual online revenue model, but at least they're giving it a good shot. If not for this class I don't think I would be sending it to any of my friends as it's not somewhere I could spend a lot of time.

New iPod App

Apple's new application, "The BulletFlight app," is designed to improve the accuracy of long range rifles. I will give Apple the benefit of the doubt and assume this is meant for hunters, but I wonder how much market research was done on the adoption of iPods in the hunting community.

Keys to victory

The Philadelphia Eagles have reached the NFC title game for the 5th time in 8 years. Unfortunately, they have only won once in their previous 4 attempts. To get them over this hump, I have taken the time to outline the keys to victory.

Andy Reid, the head coach, must convince Donovan McNabb, one of the top five most choking quarterbacks of all time, that this game is meaningless. 5 plays loose (and great) when his performance has little to do with the outcome of the game.
The Eagles have to get the ball in Brian Westbrook's hands. He is the most explosive player on the team and must rack up a ton of yards or draw multiple defenders for the Eagles to win.
Kevin Curtis must stay out of the Arizona sun to avoid sunburn. He is our $5mm receiver and needs to spread the field. As such, sunburn would cost him the needed separation step.
Asante Samuel, our big free agent acquisition last year, needs to shut down Larry Fitzgerald. Larry (nice name...) is one of the top 3 WRs in football and can change the flow of a game with a single leap.
Donovan must break his ankle early in the contest. Donovan broke his ankle on the 3rd play of the game (against the Cardinals) in 2002. He continued to play and finished 20 of 25 for 255 yards and 4 TDs. This is not a coincidence.
Our big men up front on defense need to get to the QB. Kurt Warner is old and brittle. A 900 pound (409 kg) pile of sweaty men on top of him will make him feel a little uncomfortable.
Turnovers, turnovers, turnovers. Get them. Don't give them.
We need to defer when we win the coin flip! This is critical. The Eagles do not do well when they get the ball first. It is in their best interest to start the game on defense (and 2nd half on offense) and have the wind advantage at the end of the game when a field goal could decide who continues the miracle playoff run to Tampa Bay.
